Motorola Unveils New Mission Critical Communications Solutions for Public Safety and Government Markets

Posted on: Monday, 22 August 2005, 06:00 CDT

DENVER, Aug. 22 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Motorola , the leading provider of Mission Critical Communications Solutions, today announced the introduction of multiple new products developed for public safety and government organizations during the 71st Annual Conference and Exposition of the Association of Public Safety Communications Officials International (APCO) in Denver, Colorado.

Motorola solutions introduced today include the first wireless data system to deliver 96 kbps of data in the current private radio frequency band; the first remote speaker microphone with Global Positioning Systems (GPS) personnel tracking capability; Motorola's first fully IP Dispatch Console designed to perform to Mission Critical customer specifications; and a complete end-to-end wireless broadband solution that provides real-time video monitoring and 'Intelligent' video surveillance.

"Motorola is committed to providing the highest quality and most reliable integrated voice and data solutions for mission critical communication requirements," said Rich Baids, corporate vice president, Motorola Government and Enterprise Mobility Solutions. "We listened to our customers and developed new technologies and products that address both their existing and future needs, providing them with seamless communications across mission critical situations."

Motorola Public Safety Technology and Solutions Introduced at APCO 2005 MCC 7500 Dispatch Console

The MCC 7500 Dispatch Console is Motorola's ASTRO(R) 25 Mission Critical IP Dispatch solution designed to ensure superior audio quality and prioritized emergency calls, regardless of call volume or traffic loading. The MCC 7500 also provides true end-to-end encryption for secure calls, and the easy-to-use Elite Graphical User Interface (GUI). Connecting directly to the IP network without central electronics or gateways, console positions are seamlessly integrated with ASTRO 25 systems. Both trunking and conventional channels interface to the MCC 7500 through the same IP network.

In tandem, a flexible, versatile, and scalable digital logging solution is being introduced. The logging solution provides audio quality equal to that of the MCC 7500 operator position and is compliant with Motorola's network security and quality requirements.

To enhance cost savings and system interoperability, the MCC 7500 Consoles and logging participate fully in Agency Partitioning. This allows departments and agencies to share a system, yet manage and maintain control over their own talk-groups, encryption keys and configuration data. In addition, a new approach to database configuration and fault management enables the system's network manager to configure and manage console and logging positions. This centralized approach, with changes automatically distributed throughout the system, provides vital efficiency.

ASTRO(R) 25 with High Performance Data

Motorola ASTRO 25 with High Performance Data is the first wireless data system to deliver 96 kbps of data in the current private radio frequency band. Motorola's new wireless system operates in both 700 MHz and 800 MHz spectrum and uses the standard 25 kHz channel allocations with mobile coverage similar to 800 MHz voice systems. ASTRO 25 with High Performance Data is designed to meet the special needs of private data networks, bringing rapid intelligence to decision makers in the field.

The ASTRO 25 with High Performance Data network is an IP-based solution, permitting traditional desktop applications to easily extend into the field. This enhances the user's realm of information, leveraging existing software applications and extending the reach of Intranet and Internet to mobile workers. The core of the High Performance Data network serves as the backbone for future wideband services operating on 700MHz wideband channels. ASTRO 25 with High Performance Data lays the foundation for transition to high-speed wideband data applications, such as digital video.

Intelligent Video Surveillance and Control Solution (iVSC)

The Intelligent Video Surveillance and Control Solution (iVSC) is a complete end-to-end wired and wireless solution that provides real-time video monitoring and real-time 'Intelligent' video surveillance. Designed specifically for public safety agencies, the iVSC solution incorporates a flexible architecture designed to be optimized on Motorola's Wireless Broadband Networks (such as MOTOMESH(TM) Multi-Radio Broadband Solution).

The iVSC solution allows customers to use video to multiply first responder forces, increase personnel safety and use Video Analysis to enable faster response rates and fewer false alarms. Agencies can better prevent criminal acts from occurring through the use of pre-emptive intelligence, respond more effectively with improved situational awareness, and improve community safety -- all through the use of the iVSC solution.

ASTRO(R) 25 XTL(TM) 5000 "O5" Control Head, XTL(TM) 2500 and XTL(TM) 1500 Digital Mobile Radios

Motorola completes its most advanced digital mobile portfolio with the introduction of the XTL 2500 mid-tier and XTL 1500 low-tier radios. In addition, Motorola has extended its XTL 5000 high-tier mobile radio offering with a new "O5" control head solution which interfaces with the newly developed Digital Vehicular Repeater System (DVRS). The DVRS offers a cost effective solution to expand P25 system coverage.

The XTL 2500 is suitable for users in many public safety and public service environments. Designed for users in law enforcement, fire, EMS and government agencies, it features a 14-character tri-color backlit LCD display, five programmable buttons and optional keypad microphone. The XTL 2500 supports the type of consistent, high quality communication users have come to expect.

The XTL 1500 is well suited for users in local law enforcement, construction, utility and petroleum environments. Designed for durability and ease of use, the XTL 1500 offers enhanced sound quality engineered for noisy, demanding environments and features a simplified interface with 8-digit alphanumeric display, status icons and programmable buttons to minimize training needs. The XTL 1500 offers power and durability in a streamlined, affordable package.

This family of mobile radios expands options available to customers, allowing them to select the mobile that is most appropriate for their needs based on features and functionality. All of the XTL mobile radios are P25 compliant and employ the same high-quality transceiver tested to withstand the most rugged conditions; including severe dust, rain, vibration, shock and other environmental stresses experienced by the most active mobile radio users. As customer needs change, they can quickly and easily migrate from one radio to the next, at their own pace, helping to maximize existing system investments.

ASTRO(R) 25 Personnel Location Tracking Solution

Motorola's ASTRO(R) 25 Personnel Location Tracking Solution utilizes Global Positioning Systems (GPS) technology, providing dispatch operators with the invaluable tool of monitoring and locating personnel who operate outdoors. The Personnel Location Tracking Solution is available on ASTRO(R) 25 Integrated Voice & Data Systems and tracks via the XTS(TM)5000 portable radio when equipped with a GPS Remote Speaker Microphone (RSM).

"This year's APCO is especially exciting for us since we are introducing several innovative mission critical solutions to the market," said Baids. "These solutions include broadband services that facilitate crime prevention through real-time monitoring and use of pre-emptive intelligence, technology that enables dispatch operators to locate and track personnel during critical situations, and next generation dispatch solutions that bring compelling new benefits to mission critical command and control operations."

Baids added, "We have also expanded and enhanced Motorola's ASTRO(R) 25 System Platform and P25 compliant product offerings, bringing increased functionality and interoperability to the public safety community."

The MCC 7500 Dispatch Console, ASTRO 25 with High Performance Data, iVSC, ASTRO 25 XTL Digital Mobile Radios and ASTRO 25 Personnel Location Tracking Solution, are part of Motorola's extensive portfolio of public safety and security solutions for mission critical integrated communications, information management, regional coordination and incident command. With more than 100,000 sites within mission critical communication networks worldwide, Motorola is the industry leader in providing secure systems for mission critical government customers.

Motorola's complete portfolio of Mission Critical Communications Solutions, including those noted above, will be showcased at Booth #725 August 22-25 during the 71st Annual Conference and Exposition of the Association of Public Safety Communications Officials International (APCO) at the Denver Convention Center.
