Foundry Networks and Myricom Form Alliance to Drive 10-Gigabit Ethernet Adoption in High Performance Computing Environments

Posted on: Monday, 22 August 2005, 12:00 CDT

SAN JOSE, Calif. and ARCADIA, Calif., Aug. 22 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Foundry Networks(R), Inc. , a performance and total solutions leader for end-to-end switching and routing, has formed an alliance with Myricom(R), Inc., a global leader in High Performance Computing (HPC), to jointly develop and deliver 10-Gigabit Ethernet solutions within Foundry's HPC Ethernet Alliance Program. Foundry's HPC Ethernet Alliance Program is designed to accelerate deployment of high-performance Gigabit Ethernet and 10-Gigabit Ethernet solutions. Foundry will work closely with Myricom to deliver standards-based, high-performance, 10-Gigabit Ethernet solutions to both the HPC community and advanced enterprise data centers.

As part of the Foundry HPC Ethernet Alliance Program, Foundry and Myricom will work together on:

-- Interoperability testing and benchmarking of Foundry's 10-Gigabit Ethernet switches with Myricom's standards-based Myri-10G 10-Gigabit Ethernet NICs to provide customers with seamless integration and end- to-end performance; -- Cooperative marketing to promote the use of 10-Gigabit Ethernet in traditional HPC and emerging enterprise environments; -- Cross training on the benefits of an integrated, solutions-based HPC networking approach.

"Myricom is pleased to be part of Foundry's HPC Ethernet Alliance program," said Dr. Charles Seitz, founder and CEO of Myricom, Inc. "The convergence of high-performance computing technology with the ubiquity of Ethernet benefits both HPC environments and enterprises that now need both better performance and return on investments in storage networks, intense computations, and data centers in general. Our new Myri-10G solutions, like Foundry's Alliance Program, are designed to bridge this gap, and we're very pleased to be working with Foundry in taking the lead."

According to Mark Danckert, Director of Alliances for Foundry Networks, "This alliance brings together the performance leaders in enterprise Ethernet switching and high-performance computing. The combination of Foundry's high- performance 10-Gigabit Ethernet switching products and Myricom's low-cost, standards-based 10-Gigabit Ethernet network interface cards (NICs) will benefit both the HPC community and Enterprise data centers. In addition, Foundry's presence in the enterprise data center will help extend Myricom's technology beyond the HPC user community, bringing the benefits of Myricom's low-cost and high-performance 10-Gigabit Ethernet NIC technology to the mainstream enterprise market."
