Ample Communications Introduces Production-Ready Internet Appliance Solution; New Packet Processing Card Complements NIC Solutions

Posted on: Tuesday, 23 August 2005, 09:00 CDT

Ample Communications, a leading provider of communication silicon for wire line network systems, today announced a complete, production-ready hardware solution for network system developers. Ample's solution is comprised of the three previously announced SPI-4.2 based Ethernet Network Interface Cards (NIC) and a new 5 Gbs packet processing card. This is the only solution to offer footprint and software compatibility for full-rate and intelligently oversubscribed devices. Typical applications for the hardware include security appliances, VPNs and load balancers.

The Ample solution gives customers the flexibility to develop a custom-made Internet appliance by adding their software. Leveraging Ample Communications' SPI-4.2 based Ethernet NICs, customers have a variety of interface types and capabilities from which to choose. This interface flexibility allows customers to design products faster and with more capabilities, while significantly reducing development costs and time to market.

"We have several customers interested in this solution because of the flexible interface types that allow customers to get to market quickly at lower cost," said Mat Steinberg, Director of Business Development for Ample Communications. "This appliance also demonstrates interoperability of Ample's devices with Intel's IXP 2800 network processor, giving customers more comfort when designing with Ample's products."
