MagnaChip Semiconductor Launches a One-Chip Solution for High Resolution Mobile Display Products
Posted on: Thursday, 25 August 2005, 12:00 CDT
SEOUL, South Korea, Aug. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- MagnaChip Semiconductor today announced the launch of its new one-chip QVGA solution for high-end, high- resolution mobile display products.
The MagnaChip QVGA TFT one-chip IS2320 supports resolution of 240 RGB x 320 dot and 262K color in 2.0," 2.2," and 2.4" panel displays. This new product contains a source driver, a gate driver, memory, an embedded power supply, and will provide a 68/80 system MPU interface and an 18/16/6-bit RGB interface. This product was developed by ISRON, a leading display driver IC company based in Osaka, Japan, which MagnaChip acquired in March 2005. Prototypes of this new chip solution will be produced and shipped to customers this month. MagnaChip offers the smallest chip size among the currently available QVGA TFT one-chip Driver IC products.
Yoshio Imamura, former head of ISRON and now Chief Technology Officer in MagnaChip's Display Solutions Division, commented, "Digital cameras became a must have consumer electronic device only when the Megapixel count reached the level necessary to provide consumers with comparable or better quality images than traditional cameras. Many industry observers believe that mobile phones will be able to provide camera technology comparable to a digital camera. This will potentially spur another upgrade cycle led by consumers currently using mobile phones with only basic functionality."
Imamura continued, "MagnaChip is positioned to lead such a cycle because our higher resolution display products are at the forefront of this new technology. We have been supporting several important customer roadmaps with our latest solution and would expect to see the next generation of camera phones hitting the market by this December containing our technology."
The IS2320 chip will be produced using TSMC's 0.25um process. About MagnaChip Semiconductor
