Vancouver, Wash., Internet Domain Registrar Moves Corporate Offices

Aug. 27--Dotster Inc., a Vancouver-based Internet domain name registrar, is moving its corporate offices to larger space in the Westfield Vancouver mall area in anticipation of more business growth.
The five-year-old company, which among other services sells expired Web site addresses, will occupy 10,817 square feet of leased space at 8100 Parkway Drive.
With nearly 3 million Internet domains registered through Dotster, the company has tripled its registrar business this year, company officials said.
An ownership change and several recent acquisitions have helped boost business growth, said Brian Unruh, Dotster chief financial officer.
"We've really been augmenting all aspects of our business ... a little company in Vancouver doing big things," Unruh said.
Dotster was founded in 2000 as a wholly owned subsidiary of CAS Holdings in Kelso.
The company, which Unruh described as "in stealth mode," has since been sold to a group of private investors who also have funded recent Dotster acquisitions of several similar businesses.
Employment has grown from 30 two years ago to about 50, with plans to add as many as 25 more positions in the coming 12 months, said Unruh, who joined the company earlier this year.
Some of the acquired operations have been incorporated into the Vancouver business, he said.
The company, which has operated at 11807 N.E. 99th St. in Vancouver, will move to its new space in October.
"The move will give us space to grow and provide a nice upgrade," he said.
Tamara Fuller, a real estate broker with NAI Norris, Beggs & Simpson, handled the lease transaction.
Dotster is among the largest U.S. Internet domain registrars, monitoring Web site names that are about to expire, then selling them to the highest bidder.
Other services include Web hosting, Web site building and marketing.
"We are a full-services shop," said Stephanie Schoenborn, Dotster affiliate manager. "Customers who come to Dotster get everything they need for the site, including site promotion. We help in several different ways to create an Internet presence for our customers."
