Engineering Firm Significantly Reduces Spam With Sprint Email Protection Services

Posted on: Thursday, 20 November 2003, 06:00 CST

OVERLAND PARK, Kan., Nov. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Dewberry, the second-largest engineering firm based in the Washington, D.C. area, announced today it has signed an agreement with Sprint to provide network-based anti-spam services to control the inflow of spam to its 1,600 employees. Since implementing Sprint Email Protection Services, Dewberry has managed to prevent more than 700,000 spam e-mails in less than three months, relieving mail servers from having to process and store about 3.5 gigabits of electronic mail. In addition to utilizing Sprint Email Protection Services, Sprint provides Dewberry with frame relay and Internet services.

"We tested Sprint Email Protection Services for 30 days and the service greatly reduced the amount of spam," said Henry Tyler, director of Corporate Technology, Dewberry. "Our e-mail servers were constantly inundated with spam, and we were spending significant time and other resources to address this issue. The reason we chose Sprint Email Protection Services is because it made a difference in the amount of spam Dewberry receives, and it was easy to implement."

Sprint Email Protection Services is a network-based solution that is designed to maintain the integrity of corporate messages before they ever enter a company's network infrastructure. Features of the service include virus protection; spam filtering; store and forward; content and policy screening; and 24x7 online reporting. Additionally, the service requires no hardware or software to purchase, install, manage, upgrade or fix. It is estimated that nearly 31 billion e-mail messages are sent daily, with estimates of e-mail traffic growth to 60 billion messages daily by 2006.

"Combine the reliance on e-mail for business communication with the importance of maintaining open and effective communication channels, and customers begin to understand the importance of enterprise message management," said Vicki Warker, vice president of Marketing and Sales Operations, Sprint. "Sprint Email Protection Services is the tool of choice for businesses of all sizes who want to enhance the utilization of their networks and increase productivity, while minimizing the damage spam can cause."

Professional services companies -- especially engineering, accounting and law firms -- are experiencing a growing demand for connectivity solutions and integrated applications, which could exhaust internal IT resources and increase the need for managed business and network services.
