NEC Solutions America Awarded Best in Category By the Intel Developer Forum for Research and Technology

Posted on: Monday, 29 August 2005, 06:00 CDT

NEC Solutions (America), Inc., a premier provider of integrated solutions for the Connected Enterprise in North America, today announced that its technology demonstration of its 64-bit Montecito solution received Intel's Best in Category Award for "Research and Technology." NEC's Express5800/1000 Series confirmed NEC's capability to support three generations of Itanium(R) processors concurrently in a single system; proving NEC's innovation and long standing commitment to the Itanium architecture and Dual Core Itanium 2 processor. NEC Solutions America received this acknowledgement at Intel's inaugural Technology Innovation Accelerated Awards (TIA Awards) at the Intel Developer Forum -- America's (IDFA) in San Francisco, CA, on August 24.

Although not yet available for the U.S. market, NEC's 64-bit Montecito solution was demonstrated at the IDFA, and delivered the first successful simultaneous demonstration of Intel's three highly powered Itanium processors, McKinley, Madison and Montecito. In addition to supporting three generations of Itanium processors, NEC's system has the ability to run applications written for all generations of Itanium and can be configured as separate partitions or as a single symmetric multi-processor.

"We are honored to be recognized by Intel for our innovation and technology research in the Itanium 2 processor market," said Larry Sheffield, executive vice president, Solutions Platform Group, NEC Solutions America. "Receiving this award reaffirms NEC's commitment to the server industry, and in creating products that offer robust solutions for our customers."

Intel's TIA Awards were established to reward companies who incorporate Intel's latest technologies and adopt its new platform strategies. The competitive awards program was open to all exhibitors and sponsors, and was narrowed down to seventeen competing finalists. Journalists and analysts covering the three-day technical conference selected the winners of each category.

"We are proud to highlight organizations like NEC Solutions America, who develop ground-breaking technologies that coincide with Intel's vision," said Rob Chapman, general manager, Intel Developer Forum. "As a technological pioneer, NEC's ongoing commitment to the Itanium architecture matches Intel's platform strategy; enabling new capabilities for the enterprise market."
