Optical Solutions Inc., the market leader in next-generation GPON access networks, today announced that Public Service Telephone Company of Reynolds, Ga. (www.pstel.com), has selected the FiberPath(R) GPON system for a greenfield FTTP deployment in a new subdivision of Lizella, approximately six miles west of Macon.
Public Service Telephone serves nine counties and spans 1,050 square miles of western and central Georgia. Founded in 1911, the ILEC has been owned and operated by the Bond family for four generations. "We've always prided ourselves in offering customers a range of services to suit their lifestyle or business needs," said General Manager Jim Bond. "Deploying direct fiber connections to new subdivisions like Tobee Creek takes this service philosophy to the next level - customers get added savings from bundling voice, data, video and long distance, and they get the convenience of one bill."
Public Service Telephone looked at a variety of access solutions before selecting Optical Solutions' FiberPath 500 GPON system. "OSI best met our network needs," Bond said. "We've now had two other developers approach us about FTTP, so this trial-run could be the first of several fiber deployments for us."
Optical Solutions' FiberPath 500 system, featuring Gigabit PON (GPON) technology, provides optimal bandwidth for delivering advanced voice, video and data services, and for effectively future-proofing the access network infrastructure. The FiberPath system is fully compliant with ITU FSAN standards, and is the only residential GPON platform that is widely deployed and available today.
"Optical Solutions has spent nearly a decade developing and honing a FTTP access solution that provides a natural migration path for carriers like Public Service Telephone," said Optical Solutions President and CEO Mike Dagenais. "Our family of products for both central office and network-edge applications gives carriers the ultimate flexibility for transitioning their network, and the unmatched bandwidth of GPON buys them long-term insurance for the future."
