WITH much fanfare, Microsoft has unveiled locally the latest Office System packed with business productivity applications.

Microsoft Southeast Asia's president Ahmed Reda Chami said in future, productivity means doing more with less and Office System helps to achieve this with its ease of use and new functionalities.

He said today's challenges in the business environment are disconnected islands of information, multiple devices and interfaces, inefficient use of technologies, inefficient collaboration, information and electronic mail (e-mail) fatigue and difficulties in getting connected to business processes.

``To solve these problems, Office System delivers breakthrough such as delivering great workgroup teaming, process integration, use of business information (business intelligence) and delivering great personal results,'' Ahmed said at the launch in Kuala Lumpur.

He explained that delivering great workgroup teaming means responding to changes quickly through team work while delivering great process integration means streamlined and automated processes with improved information efficiency.

``Delivering great use of business information means getting better visibility into information and synthesise workflow information.

Delivering great personal results means utilising familiar tools and accessing key information,'' he said.

Office System comprises 16 software components, including two new interesting programs - InfoPath and OutNote.

InfoPath helps to streamline and control the gathering of information.

Here, users can share, reuse and repurpose information throughout their organisations, thus improving collaboration and decision-making process.

OneNote enables the user to take, organise and reuse notes on their laptops, desktops or Tablet PCs. It gives the user a place to store all their notes and the freedom to work with them as they please. Audio can also be recorded and synchronised with the text Microsoft Malaysia's managing director Butt Wai Choon said the new release of Office System comes with the theme Great Moments at Work, which means users will be able to enjoy an increase in productivity and enhanced connectivity.

``This is the 11th release of Office System and it represents an evolution from a suite of personal productivity applications to a more comprehensive and integrated system.''

Butt said 14 local developers have come up with solutions such as project management using the Office System technology. By next month, Microsoft expects another 28 local developers to provide solutions that ride on Office System, he added.

Microsoft, he said, expects about 1,500 developers worldwide to build solutions for Office System by end of this month.

Office System is priced at RM1,979 for the Professional Edition and RM1,589 for the Standard Edition.
