Utimaco Safeware AG, a major manufacturer of professional IT security solutions, announced today that it will pre-load the encrypting solution SafeGuard PrivateDisk on ThinkPad notebooks and ThinkCentre desktops from Lenovo. Available immediately, SafeGuard PrivateDisk allows ThinkPad notebook and ThinkCentre desktop users to create an encrypted virtual disk drive on their hardware in order to save confidential data more securely and easily.
The encrypted volumes can be set up on hard disks, network directories or on other mobile media such as USB memory sticks. Confidential data can also be securely exchanged within work-groups. In the event of an upgrade to the Enterprise Edition of SafeGuard PrivateDisk, companies are offered the option to enforce their individual safety policies on all computers on an ongoing basis. For example, security policies can be enforced by central management tools, helping to provide a uniform security environment.
SafeGuard Easy by Utimaco has been available as a security option for comprehensive hard disk encryption for ThinkPad notebooks and ThinkCentre desktop PCs since October 2004. In April, Lenovo expanded its portfolio to include folder encryption through SafeGuard PrivateDisk Enterprise Edition from Utimaco. Both SafeGuard solutions are interoperable with the ThinkVantage Technologies by Lenovo including the onboard security chip and Lenovo's one button recovery and restore solution, "Rescue and Recovery," to diagnose, get help and recover even if the operating system will not boot. In addition, Utimaco is a Global Platinum Partner in the Lenovo Alliance Program.
"A variety of reputable international customers have already opted for our mutual security solution since October 2004. Pre-loading Utimaco's security option on ThinkPad notebooks and ThinkCentre desktop PCs will accelerate the proliferation of SafeGuard PrivateDisk security preferences making it possible for our customers to enjoy the advantages mobile computing has to offer," said Craig Bumpus, Executive Vice President of Utimaco Americas.
