iVivity Storage Network Processor Sets New Standard for Combination IOPS and Throughput for iSCSI Storage Processors

Posted on: Thursday, 1 September 2005, 09:00 CDT

Demonstration Highlights Unique Zero Compromise Concurrent Performance Between Throughput and IOPS for 10 Gigabit iSCSI Storage Targets

iVivity(R), the leading provider of storage network building block technologies including industry leading iDiSX(R) storage network processors, software and custom board solutions, today announced a new high water benchmark for IP Storage Area Networking.

iVivity used a standard 10 Gigabit Ethernet fabric to demonstrate an unprecedented combination of IOPS and throughput. Approximately 400,000 IOPS and 20Gbps (19.926Gbps) of iSCSI traffic throughput was continuously and directly terminated on a single iDiSX-2000-10 storage network processor ASIC with dual 10Gbps iSCSI ports. All iSCSI traffic was terminated by the iVivity iDiSX-2000-10 ASIC without any external processors.

"These impressive results demonstrate the very real viability of 10Gbps iSCSI for storage targets," said Marc Staimer, President and CDS of Dragon Slayer Consulting. "iVivity has proved that iDiSX technology goes beyond slideware and is a desirable choice for storage system designs today."

"This powerful display reinforces our commitment to helping drive forward the storage industry's adoption of iSCSI technology," said Ashu Joshi, VP Technology. "We believe iDiSX is optimized to meet the storage networking industry's need for higher performing, scalable solutions that can be implemented cost-effectively today."

"The unprecedented integration and record setting performance of iDiSX ushers in a new era of storage systems," said Zulfiqar Qazilbash, Chief Strategy Officer. "End users and OEMs both benefit as storage network processors enable a new era of shorter development cycles and free system vendors to concentrate more on applications and less on system design issues.

The setup utilized the Force10 E300 Switch Router, 19 Intel Xeon based servers, 1 AMD Opteron server (each with 1Gbps iSCSI), and 64K to 256K packets from Iometer. The 20 iSCSI Gb Initiators generating the traffic load to the iVivity iSCSI target ran at the maximum possible output.

About iVivity

Founded in 2000, iVivity has recently brought to market a revolutionary new storage network architecture named iDiSX(R) that is accelerating the trend toward a more intelligent and higher performance storage network. iDiSX storage network processor based systems are higher performance, more compact, less costly, and easier to design and develop than comparable custom ASIC and/or software on general purpose platforms. iVivity designs and provides HBA and system boards based around its storage network processors per custom OEM specifications. Additional services include integration of custom or third-party software stacks for data protection, data management, information life cycle management and disaster recovery. iVivity headquarters are in Atlanta, Georgia. Company and product information is available by calling 1-678-990-1550, or at www.iVivity.com.
