FutureDial Offers 'In-Store' and 'At-Home' Cellphone Phonebook Portability Solutions

Posted on: Monday, 17 November 2003, 06:00 CST

SUNNYVALE, Calif., Nov. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- On November 24th, the FCC-mandated Wireless Local Number Portability (or WLNP) requirement goes into effect. While this event allows cellphone owners to switch cellular carriers and keep their phone numbers, what is often overlooked is that they will have to change their phones, which means losing their important contacts and phone numbers stored in their phonebooks. Losing carefully stored phonebook information when switching carriers or upgrading handsets has always been a problem facing consumers. Now, the increase in handset sales from WLNP creates an urgency for wireless carriers, retailers and corporations to find a solution.

Silicon Valley wireless software developer, FutureDial Incorporated, is offering cellphone phonebook portability products to address that often-overlooked phonebook portability problem.

In-Store Phonebook Portability Tool

FutureDial's "in-store" phonebook portability tool, called Cellphone Service Station(TM) (CSS(TM)), is a solution for wireless carrier stores, retailers and corporations to transfer phonebook information from an old cellphone to a new one in just a few minutes. CSS(TM) supports over 160 popular mobile phone models of Sprint PCS, Verizon Wireless, AT&T Wireless, Cingular Wireless, T-Mobile, and MetroPCS. FutureDial's Cellphone Service Station(TM) (CSS(TM)) allows wireless carriers, retailers and corporate telecomm departments to:

-- Transfer phonebook information from one handset to another.

-- Back-Up phonebooks for customers or employees to safeguard against loss.

-- Restore phonebooks to new phones if an old phone is ever lost, stolen or damaged.

-- Print out reference copies of phonebook information.

Cellphone Service Station(TM) (CSS(TM)) is currently deployed with Sprint stores nationwide, and is available for license directly from FutureDial and its authorized distributors Brightpoint, Inc., and Pacific Cellular Supply.

The complete Cellphone Service Station(TM) (CSS(TM)) Kit from FutureDial comes with a set of mobile phone data cables, software, training materials and user guides to get any store or company office started quickly and easily. As new mobile phones are launched into the market, FutureDial provides software updates through web downloads, so the CSS(TM) Software always stays up-to- date.

At-Home Phonebook Portability Solution

FutureDial also offers an "at-home" phonebook portability solution called SnapSync(TM) Software for individual cellphone users who want to manage their own phonebook information on a continual basis. SnapSync(TM) allows cellphone users to synchronize and edit phonebook information from MS Outlook directly on the PC, and then transfer that data to a mobile phone. This eliminates the hassle of manually inputting contact names and other phonebook information via the mobile phone's small keypad. SnapSync(TM) also keeps a backup copy of important phonebook information, so if the phone is ever lost or damaged, the phonebook information can be easily restored to a new phone. The SnapSync(TM) Software CD is universally compatible with over 160 popular mobile phones and can be purchased at RadioShack, CompUSA, Best Buy, MicroCenter, Fry's Electronics and Ultimate Electronics stores nationwide.

"Over the years, consumers have been forced to accept the tedious and time-consuming practice of hand-pecking names and phone numbers into the phonebooks of their mobile phones. FutureDial now provides consumers two solutions: first, a service tool for retailers to offer a one-time phonebook transfer at the point of sale, and second, a home PC version for the consumer that wants to easily update and add names and numbers into the mobile phone over time," says Christopher Waldo, V.P. of Sales and Marketing at FutureDial.
