'What Not to Wear' Goes Back to Scenes of Old Crimes to See 'Where Are They Now?'

Life was like a box of chocolates for Paramount Pictures, the studio that cleaned up at the box office and garnered six Oscars for the film "Forrest Gump." Suspend belief for this heartwarmer airing at 7 p.m. Friday on TNT, cable channel 29, and you will find yourself charmed by Tom Hanks as a slow-witted Southerner with a big heart who shows up at most of the key events of the baby boomer generation. Supporting him are Sally Field, Gary Sinise, Robin Wright and Mykelti Williamson. Trivia: According to IMDB.com, comedian David Chappelle turned down the role of Bubba (played by Williamson), thinking the movie would bomb.
You know those teachers you think had to be from another planet? Well, they are in "The Faculty," airing at 7 p.m. Friday on AMC, cable channel 48. Starring in this high school horror film are Jordana Brewster, Josh Hartnett, Elijah Wood. Salma Hayek, Usher and Jon Stewart.
Watch "Waterworld" not for its flimsy plot nor star Kevin Costner but for Tulsa's Jeanne Tripplehorn. In the escapist/fantasy film, airing at 7 p.m. Friday on Bravo, cable channel 46, she plays a woman who, with a young girl, is pursued by evil folks across the now ocean-covered world. FYI: She's an Edison High School graduate.
Faith (Kelly Ripa) gets a job as a morning TV show weather person on a repeat of "Hope & Faith," 8 p.m. Friday on ABC, channel 8.
Have square-toed shoes crept back into the wardrobe? What about those sweats, over-sized hoodies and that Goth makeup? Stacy and Clinton, style gurus, revisit four of their past makeovers to see how they're doing on "What Not to Where Are They Now," airing at 8 p.m. Friday on TLC, cable channel 56.
The 1960s version of spring break is a hoot in "Where the Boys Are," airing at 11 p.m. Friday on TCM, cable digital channel 210. Midwestern college girls (Merritt, Melanie, Tuggle and Angie) head for Ft. Lauderdale and meet up with George Hamilton, Jim Hutton and various other college hunks for a week of romance, adventures and, in one case, tragedy. It's not "The Real World" but it's sweet and fun.
One of two escapees is a hit man after a witness on a rebroadcast of "Numb3rs," airing at 9 p.m. Friday on CBS, channel 6.
Tennis, anyone? CBS will broadcast live coverage of third-round play for both men and women in the U.S. Open tennis from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday on channel 6. Coverage switches to USA, cable channel 34 at 6 p.m. Saturday.
In a late change, NBC, will broadcast live "A Concert for Hurricane Relief" at 7 p.m. Friday on channel 2 and cable channel 9. The event, with host Matt Lauer, will feature performances by artists such as Tim McGraw, Harry Connick Jr. and Wynton Marsalis as well as an appearance by Leonardo DiCaprio, among others. Viewers will be encouraged to donate to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund in support of the victims of Hurricane Katrina. The concert will also air on MSNBC, cable channel 50, and CNBC, cable channel 49.
The big fish wants to eat the little fish, even if it is a vegetarian, in the animated film "Shark Tale," airing at 7 p.m. Saturday on HBO, pay digital cable channel 300. Adults may get a kick out of this undersea mobster tale complete with the voices of Robert De Niro, Will Smith, Jack Black, Renee Zellweger, Angelina Jolie and Martin Scorsese.
Wake up, wake up on Saturday night because Hilary Duff is starring in "Raise Your Voice" at 8 p.m. on Starz, pay digital channel 390. She plays a small-town singer whose late brother submitted her application to a summer performing arts camp in Los Angeles before he died in a car crash. Oliver James and David Keith also star.
Tom Hanks is back as a nice guy who happens to fall in love with a mermaid (Daryl Hannah) with a voracious appetite and in need of a skin conditioner in Ron Howard's wonderful romantic comedy "Splash." It airs at 7 p.m. Saturday on ABC Family, cable channel 37.
The Sundance Channel, cable digital channel 208, plans to rock this weekend with "Rock Music Roll Picture," an offering of features and documentaries paying homage to American music. Airing on cable digital channel 208, the weekend opens Saturday at 6 p.m. with Justin Mitchell's "Songs for Cassavetes," followed by "Keeping Time: New Music From America's Roots, Episode 1" at 7:30, Neil Young's "Greendale" (based on his album of the same name) at 8, and "Gigantic ( A Tale of Two Johns)" featuring They Might Be Giants, (labeled the nerdiest band of all time) at 9:30.
"Rock Music Roll Picture" continues Sunday night (Howard Alk's "Janis" airs at 8 p.m.) and all-day Monday ending with "I Am Trying to Break Your Heart," a documentary about the alternative country rock band Wilco, at 8 p.m.
Where did she go seems to be the question surrounding a case of magician-assisted disappearance on "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation," being rebroadcast at 8 p.m. Saturday on CBS, channel 6.

Morgan Freeman stars in the suspenser "Along Came a Spider," being rebroadcast at 8 p.m. Sunday on CBS, channel 6. For the second time, he plays psychologist/detective Alex Cross, who is investigating the kidnapping of a senator's daughter. Monice Potter and Michael Moriarty also star.
If it's Labor Day weekend, it must be time for Jerry Lewis' annual "MDA Telethon," kicking off at 10 p.m. Sunday on Fox, channel 23 and cable channel 5. Among those featured will be Oklahoma Gov. Brad Henry and his wife, Kim, in a taped appearance talking about their personal experience with spinal muscular atrophy. They lost an infant daughter to the disease in 1990.
HBO's "Rome" will hook you with a new episode airing at 8 p.m. Sunday on pay digital channel 300. In this one, Titus Pullo's behavior has an effect on Lucius Vorenus' home and, ultimately, on the Republic itself.
