Chinese, European Trucks Will Soon Join Iran's Road Transportation Fleet

According to "Tehran Times", Chinese and European trucks will soon join Iran's road transportation fleet said former head of the Road Maintenance and Road Transport Organization. The Road Maintenance and Road Transport Organization is currently supervising and coordinating the works of over 400,000 vehicle operators and 6,000 companies in charge of cargo transportation across the country, some 250,000 vehicles are currently traversing the roads maintained by the organization noted Masud Khansari head of the organization in a farewell presentation that was held to mark his contribution to the organization
. He added that, during his tenure the organization had succeeded in transporting over 390 million tons of cargos and some 340 million passengers all over the country. Referring to the number of the trucks produced in the country he maintained that, heavy and light trucks production in Iran rose from the 5,000-7,000 in 1998 to the current 45,000. Elsewhere in his comments he referred to the decline in the number of road accidents and said that, during the first four months of the current year (March 21 through July 22 2005) road accidents dropped by 10 percent as compared to the same period last year.Source: Info-Prod Research (Middle East)
