World Airways Receives FAA Runway Safety Training Award

PEACHTREE CITY, Ga., Sept. 6 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- World Airways, a wholly owned subsidiary of World Air Holdings, Inc., , has received the first Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) runway safety training award for its cooperation with the Southern Region Runway Safety Program.
FAA executives presented World Airways with an Appreciative Partnership Award for training 100 percent of its 384 pilots and for ongoing aircraft maintenance technician (AMT) training in 2004. Luis Castro, manager of Field Operations, Runway Safety and Operations Services, presented the award at World Airways headquarters.
"World Airways is the first airline to receive this award, and it is a terrific recognition of the efforts they have made," Castro said. "It's been a successful effort for us, and as for the World pilots, there was a genuine interest in addressing the issue."
"In addition to providing literature, the Southern Region Runway Safety Program Office made presentations to each class of World pilots and AMTs attending annual or bi-annual training," said Kevin Hiatt, World's director of Corporate Safety.
