Airport's One-Stop-Shop Web Site Set for Take-Off

Cardiff International Airport has been re-branded on the internet as cwlfly.com.
The web service is designed to be a one-stop-shop for tourists which will allow customers to book holiday packages online.
Its creators intend that anyone wanting to fly from Cardiff will be able to check out all available flights from the site, instead of having to visit the online homes of different airlines.
The ability to also book hotels is intended to establish cwlfly.com as a distinct player in the tourist industry, eliminating the need to use other services and enhancing the airport's status with Welsh consumers.
Managing director Jon Horne said, 'The airport's strategy centres on a more active role in the travel booking process and is supported by a new look for airport signage, vehicles and advertising, plus a new airline-style internet booking service.
'We want the ability to effectively promote and bring services to the passenger's attention, reflecting recent research which shows that ease of booking is a top priority in travellers' decision- making criteria. This means re-thinking the entire approach to marketing by airports, which are usually passive in the travel process.'
Around 1.9m passengers use the airport annually. It now has flights to 19 destinations, nine of which are international.
The launch of the internet venture follows a survey by YouGov which found 54% of respondents now put the ability to book online as a top priority when choosing a flight.
The airport hopes to have up to eight million passengers by the 2015-30 period. A 'vital' aim is to have inter-city trains stopping at the airport.
Mr Horne said, 'We've been working with operators and the Assembly Government - which shares our goal ... we would like to see Paddington trains coming to the airport.'
This, he believes, would allow the airport to be marketed to people in towns such as Swindon.
He is also confident that road access to the airport will be overhauled.
'It's moving ahead,' he said. 'It's a reality.'
