DLP(R) 1080p TVs Reach Volume Distribution
Posted on: Thursday, 8 September 2005, 09:00 CDT
INDIANAPOLIS, Sept. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Texas Instruments (TI) at CEDIA today showcased DLP(R) 1080p TVs from HP, Mitsubishi, Samsung and Toshiba, which allow consumers to experience maximum-HD resolution with incredible clarity and razor-sharp images. 25 large-screen TV models featuring DLP 1080p technology are now shipping to retailers nationwide, ranging in screen sizes from 50" to 73". This breadth of product makes DLP technology the first large-screen 1080p TV technology to be offered in volume to consumers.
This new product line-up comes at a time when DLP TVs and the entire microdisplay category are experiencing strong momentum. According to NPD, the microdisplay TV category has displaced the projection Cathode-Ray-Tube (CRT) TVs that have dominated the large screen category for many years. As of the first quarter of 2005, microdisplay TVs are now outselling projection CRT and flat-panel plasma TVs in the U.S. large screen (>40") category. DLP technology is the number one panel supplier in the microdisplay category.
The addition of DLP 1080p TVs complements the broad line-up of 720p (1280 x 720) high-definition DLP TVs that has experienced strong success in the market. More than 125 DLP TV models are now available from major manufacturers including HP, LG, Magnavox, Mitsubishi, Panasonic, Samsung, Sharp, Toshiba and TTE/RCA, up from 75 models in 2004.
DLP 1080p TVs allow consumers to display a full 1920 x 1080 resolution, which meet the content move to a 1080 resolution standard. High-definition broadcasts, gaming devices, and video players (HD-DVD and Blu-Ray) are all moving to 1080 standards. With DLP 1080p TVs, consumers get a high-definition viewing experience defined by incredible colors, rich blacks, edge-to-edge sharpness, and stunning clarity.
"The breadth of DLP 1080p products available from our customers is truly impressive, and industry leading," said Adam Kunzman, Business Manager for TI DLP TV Products. "The range of DLP TVs that will be available to consumers this holiday buying season will allow them to choose one that fits their price, performance, style and functionality needs."
CEDIA attendees can experience DLP 1080p technology for both TV and front projection applications at TI DLP Products booth #248.
