GAITHERSBURG, Md., Sept. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- The U.S. Transportation Command (USTRANSCOM) has awarded Lockheed Martin a 12-month extension of the Global Transportation Network (GTN) contract worth $21.3M.
GTN, a command and control (C2) transportation and logistics information management system, is designed to support USTRANSCOM's global distribution mission via the Internet's World Wide Web. The system collects and integrates information from selected transportation and distribution systems and uses the data to support transportation planning, tracking and decision-making for its customers.
"The Global Transportation Network provides its users anywhere in the world a seamless, near-real-time capability to access and employ transportation and deployment information," said Carla Powe, director of Focused Logistics at Lockheed Martin's Integrated Systems & Solutions (IS&S) line of business, which leads the Corporation's horizontal and system integration efforts. "This information enables the military users to distribute and use their available resources through visualizing the supply chain."
GTN, the information integrator for the DoD Transportation Enterprise, merges data from 28 existing Department of Defense logistics systems and more than 100 commercial transportation systems to provide in-transit visibility of personnel units, equipment and cargo moving through the Defense Transportation system.
"Under the extension, Lockheed Martin will continue to provide technology systems and support to USTRANSCOM," said Angela Heise, GTN program manager. "Our efforts provide the warfighters with an easy and convenient option to view mission critical information."
The extension is scheduled through August 2006.
Headquartered in Bethesda, Md., Lockheed Martin employs about 130,000 people worldwide and is principally engaged in the research, design, development, manufacture and integration of advanced technology systems, products and services. The corporation reported 2004 sales of $35.5 billion.
