Los Angeles CIOs Report on Fourth-Quarter Hiring Outlook

Posted on: Thursday, 8 September 2005, 09:01 CDT

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- A net 9 percent of chief information officers (CIOs) in the Los Angeles area expect to hire information technology (IT) professionals in the fourth quarter of 2005, according to the most recent Robert Half Technology IT Hiring Index and Skills Report. Thirteen percent of executives surveyed plan to add staff during the quarter and 4 percent anticipate reductions in personnel. The net 9 percent increase is down two points from the third-quarter 2005 forecast. The majority of respondents, 82 percent, foresee no change in hiring in the fourth quarter.

The local results reflect a two-quarter rolling average based on the responses of 200 CIOs from a stratified random sample of companies in the Los Angeles area with 100 or more employees; 1,400 executives were queried for the national data. (To view the national results, visit http://www.rht.com/PressRoom.) The surveys were conducted by an independent research firm and developed by Robert Half Technology, a leading provider of IT professionals on a project and full-time basis. Robert Half Technology has been tracking IT hiring activity in the United States since 1995.

"Many companies are making new investments in technology and initiating IT projects to support business growth," said Katherine Spencer Lee, executive director of Robert Half Technology. "As a result, managers at these firms are expanding their workforces once again, but they remain conservative when hiring, adding IT personnel gradually to meet specific staffing needs."
