Apple Unveils Mobile Phone That Plays Music Like iPod

September 8, 2005

Sep. 8–NEW YORK — Apple Computer Inc. on Wednesday took the wraps off a mobile phone that can play music like the popular iPod, in a bid to extend its domination of the digital music market.

The Rokr phone, developed with Motorola Inc., can store up to 100 songs and has a color screen, stereo speakers, stereo headphones and a camera.

U.S. mobile service Cingular Wireless will be the exclusive U.S. carrier for the phone, which it will sell for $249.99 to customers who sign up for a two-year service contract in the United States starting from Wednesday.

The phone will be made available outside the United States later this year.
