Hifn(TM) Announces Production Availability, FreeBSD Support for 795x Security Processors

Posted on: Tuesday, 16 December 2003, 06:00 CST

LOS GATOS, Calif., Dec. 16 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Network security and flow classification market leader Hifn today announced production availability of the 7955, 7956, and recently announced 7954 security processors. The 7954, 7955, and 7956 are designed to deliver business-class VPN security performance at affordable ROBO/SME (Remote Office Branch Office/Small and Medium-sized Enterprise) prices.

"Hifn has been very helpful in adding support to FreeBSD for the 795x line of security processors," said Sam Leffler, program developer with FreeBSD. "We consider support for their products important to our user community and look forward to their continued involvement."

"FreeBSD offers advanced networking, performance, security and compatibility features today which are still missing in other operating systems, even some of the best commercial ones," said Tom Moore, VP of marketing and sales at Hifn, Inc. "A customer who has installed FreeBSD can plug in our reference cards without making any modifications or writing any integration code to use the OS. This reduces our customer's development time and allows them to get immediately started with their application."

The Hifn 7954, 7955, and 7956 are advanced security processors designed for T3/OC3 networking applications in VPN Broadband Routers, wireless access points, VPN Edge Routers/Gateways, Firewall/VPN Appliances and other network and Customer Premise Equipment (CPE). High-speed LZS compression engines, along with TKIP and CCMP protocol support for current and emerging 802.11 security standards, make the 795x security processors ideal for wireless access and aggregation points.

The 795x family of security processors accelerate a variety of IPsec and SSL/TLS protocols, including DES, Triple DES, AES (with 128, 192, and 256-bit key lengths), and ARC4 encryption; MD5, SHA-1 hashing and authentication; RSA, DSA, SSL, IKE, and Diffie-Hellman public key support; 3,072-bit modular arithmetic and exponentiation, plus true Random Number Generation (RNG). A dual host bus interface provides direct access to the MPC860 and to any PCI host system. Future validation will take place to support the MPC8260.

Coupled with the available 795x API software development tools and reference boards, the 795x family can be readily designed into new systems, making it possible for networking equipment manufacturers to substantially reduce the time needed to take new products to market.

All three security processors are packaged in 144-pin TQPF. The power requirement is 1.5 V core and 3.3V I/O. In production availability today, the 795x family price range is from $13 to $30, in quantities of 1,000.
