Norlight Introduces Data Storage Solution
Norlight Telecommunications, Inc., a Wisconsin-based provider of customized integrated voice and data solutions for businesses, today announced the expansion of its business continuance practice with Data Storage Services. Norlight is a Journal Communications company (NYSE:JRN).
The new service provides customers with off-site, secure data storage space on an as-needed basis for critical data. The disk-based system delivers high-speed transfer and rapid retrieval of customers’ data, unlike tape back-up systems.
According to a 2004 Yankee Group Tape Reliability Survey, 40.7% of respondents were unable to recover data from a tape storage system within the previous year. Norlight’s service eliminates that problem, delivering a more reliable and accessible data protection solution by storing information on a disk-based system.
The Data Storage Services’ hardware is physically housed and protected in Norlight’s secure, environmentally controlled Data Center. The Data Storage system is further protected by its design of redundant configurations, ensuring data integrity and availability when a customer needs to retrieve it.
"Off-site backup gives an organization’s mission-critical data added protection," explained Tim Mauck, Norlight’s category manager for managed services and data center services. "By storing your data at a separate and secure location, you ensure you’ll have access to it should your main site or data center become unavailable."
Compatible with a wide range of industry-standard data back-up and restoration software solutions, a customer can easily access stored data from its own site or directly from within Norlight’s Data Center. Customers manage their organization’s stored data by determining what information to store and performing back-up, restoration and archival tasks.
"Norlight’s Data Storage Services are very flexible, where customers really manage the service themselves based upon their specific needs," added Mauck. "Customers can use it as their primary or secondary data storage solution. They can subscribe to as much data storage space as they need and can easily expand capacity as their needs grow."
Data Storage Services may be integrated with Norlight’s Data Center and Workspace Recovery Service for a full-featured business continuance solution. Norlight’s complete portfolio of Business Continuance Services includes:
– Data Center facilities with customized collocation solutions in a secure environment with redundant UPS power supply and diesel generator backup, heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems
– Workspace Recovery Center where displaced employees can temporarily conduct business in the event a disaster prevents the use of their primary facility(s)
– Network Recovery with ISDN dial backup
– Site Recovery with host and PVC reroute, and redirect PVC
– Access Recovery with personalized solutions to protect local access
– Email Recovery with store and forward e-mail
– Managed Network Security services
– Enhanced Monitoring Services of LAN and WAN networks
