Popular Music Network Overcomes Last Obstacle to Broadcasting in Slovenia

Posted on: Friday, 9 September 2005, 18:00 CDT

Text of report in English by Slovene news agency STA

Ljubljana, 9 September: A regional channel of the world's most popular music network has overcome the last obstacle to its airing in Slovenia. MTV Adria received on Thursday [8 September] confirmation that it has been entered into the media registry, the channel said on Friday.

According to MTV Adria, all Slovenes are now able to view the channel, which replaced the MTV Europe broadcast in four countries of the former Yugoslavia.

MTV Adria began broadcasting in Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia- Hercegovina and Serbia-Montenegro last Thursday, however the channel could not be viewed on most Slovene cable networks because of a ban by the chief media inspector, Ivan Pal.

Pal issued last Thursday a notice to cable networks informing them that MTV Adria cannot be shown because it does not have the necessary permits and has not been entered into the media registry.

The network claimed last Friday that Pal was wrong in his findings, adding that he had also failed to contact the network before issuing the ban.

The 101st MTV programme is to play international and region- specific music, as well as entertainment shows for audiences aged between 15 and 35.

In its initial days, the programme will mainly include subtitled international MTV shows and then gradually increase the share of locally-produced shows.
