Nov. 11--Hurst-based Handango is providing software for Microsoft's first U.S. wireless phone, launched Monday by Verizon Wireless.
The Samsung SCH-i600 Smartphone uses Microsoft's Windows Mobile operating system to provide users with calendar, e-mail and Internet browsing features. It combines a mobile phone and personal digital assistant.
Handango, which produces software for hand-held computers, has created an online site for Verizon Wireless to sell additional software to Smartphone owners.
It is Handango's first marketing agreement with Verizon Wireless, the largest U.S. wireless service provider with 36 million customers. Handango has previously worked with Samsung and provided software for Microsoft's mobile phone that was launched in Europe last year.
"This is one of a number of things we'll be doing with Verizon Wireless in the coming years," said Randy Eisenmann, Handango's president, adding that the company supports several other Verizon Wireless phones.
Consumers who purchase the Samsung SCH-i600 will be able to buy software and ring tones directly from their phone. A link to Handango's Web store, www.handango.com/verizonwireless, appears on the Verizon Wireless Web site.
The phone retails for $399.99 after a $100 instant rebate with a two-year agreement with Verizon Wireless, the companies said.
