Alaska Airlines to Start Nonstop Flights to Seattle

Posted on: Sunday, 11 September 2005, 15:00 CDT

Sep. 10--Starting Monday, it will be cheaper to fly to Seattle from Dallas/Fort Worth Airport, thanks to Alaska Airlines.

Alaska, based in that West Coast city, launches service from D/FW with $89 one-way fares. Later this year, the price will increase to $169 each way. American Airlines is matching the fares.

Seattle has been among the most expensive cities to fly to from D/FW. During the first quarter, it was the airport's third-priciest U.S. destination, with one-way fares averaging $256, according to the Transportation Department. More expensive were Hartford, Conn., and San Jose, Calif.

Alaska is not considered a low-fare carrier, but it generally offers lower prices than the major hub carriers. It also has high service levels: The D/FW-Seattle flight will feature free portable entertainment devices and meals.
