Venturi Wireless Optimizes User Experience of Mobile Broadband Services With Significant Upgrades to Its V3000 Server; V3000 Improves Carrier ROI and CapEx; Version 3.3 Upgrades Further Enhance Application Performance

Venturi Wireless, a global provider of 3G mobile optimization solutions, today announced a number of new features for its carrier-grade Venturi V3000 Server. The server improves the performance of applications over 3G mobile broadband services by up to a factor of seven, based on live network testing. The new features in Version 3.3 of Venturi Wireless' server enable operators to further improve application performance, even in degraded RF conditions where weak signal strength, interference, fading, or high network load often cause speeds to drop significantly. This high level of performance is critical for users surfing the Internet, transmitting photos, working with multimedia applications, and accessing JavaScript-heavy web sites.

Mobile operators that use the V3000 can improve their return on investment and substantially reduce capital and operational expenditures by serving significantly more customers with their existing network infrastructure. In addition, carriers can now better monitor the performance of laptops, SmartPhones, and Pocket PCs that incorporate Venturi's VClient software, which is available for free download from www.venturiwireless.com.

Solving Problems, Accelerating Performance

Wireless carriers worldwide are rolling out 3G networks to deliver high-speed mobile data services to a broad market of consumers and business professionals. However, they are finding that Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) applications, which were written for wireline networks, suffer from packet drop, high latency, and fluctuating bandwidth on wireless networks. The poor performance that results from these problems can lead to subscriber dissatisfaction and even service cancellations. Venturi Wireless's V3000 Server solves these problems and accelerates the performance TCP applications over wireless networks by combining Adaptive Airlink Optimization(TM), which transparently replaces TCP with the company's patented Venturi Transport Protocol (VTP), with compression and caching technologies.

The ability to offer superior application performance enables wireless operators to attract new mobile data customers and retain existing customers by improving their satisfaction with the service they receive. Even operators rolling out new EV-DO services can benefit from Venturi's solution because it specifically addresses the problem of optimizing the performance of TCP applications over the wireless network. The Venturi V3000 increases bandwidth efficiency and delivers maximum performance on WCDMA/CDMA/CDMA 2000, 1xRTT/EV-DO/EV-DO Rev A, and Edge/UMTS/HSDPA networks.

In addition, Venturi's solution provides significant ROI by enabling more efficient use of existing radio infrastructure such as Base Transceiver Stations (BTSes) and Packet Data Serving Nodes (PDSNs)/ Gateway GPRS Support Node. Venturi's content-specific compression techniques significantly reduce network traffic and maximize data transmission speeds. Venturi compresses the broadest range of applications and protocols, including Web and secure Web (HTTP, HTTPS), email (SMTP, POP3, IMAP4), images (GIF, JPEG, PNG, and others), office documents (MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, PDF), Web applications (JavaScript, CGI), and FTP.

New Features Enhance Mobile Services

The latest Venturi V3000 upgrade includes a new HTTP Request Optimization feature that reduces the time it takes to download data from a web page by up to 90 percent. Many web pages have a large number of objects, and downloading them one by one can be time consuming. The V3000 now achieves maximum efficiency by funneling HTTP requests from the same client through a single compression channel, thus reducing the number of bytes sent to the server. This feature is particularly useful in networks with asymmetric bandwidth, since packing more HTTP requests into fewer packets saves bandwidth.

Venturi's Smart Compression technology identifies the content type of data streams independent of the protocol used to transfer them, so the V3000 server can optimally compress the data. This feature, combined with a unique JPEG2000 Optimization feature, enables the V3000 to reduce JPEG2000 images by up to 50 percent without a loss of quality, thereby cutting in half the time it takes users to transmit and receive photos. Venturi has also improved performance on JavaScript-heavy web sites by 30 percent with its new client-side caching and pre-fetch features.

In addition, Version 3.3 of the V3000 is capable of supporting streaming multimedia applications via the Real Time Streaming Protocol (RTSP); it also supports downloaded media content. With Venturi, TCP streamed videos will now start two to three times faster, the chance of buffers emptying is reduced by a third to a half, and restart is two to three times faster compared to TCP.

The upgraded V3000 incorporates features that enhance carriers' business processes as well, enabling them to better monitor the VClient, which resides on the user's laptop or handheld device, and to continuously monitor network speeds and activate optimization when needed. With the VClient, users gain improved wireless transmission speeds and reliability while downloading Web pages, sending or receiving email, uploading/downloading files, accessing business applications, and streaming multimedia.
