Fonix Telecom Provides Much Needed Help to Hurricane Katrina Victims

Posted on: Monday, 12 September 2005, 09:00 CDT

Fonix Telecom, a subsidiary of Fonix Corp. (OTCBB: FNIX) and an integrated telecommunications provider, is working hard to provide important services and actively support those affected by Hurricane Katrina.

Fonix Telecom efforts include:

-- More than 250 Fonix calling cards have been distributed to local relief shelters across the affected areas, giving victims a chance to reach out to relatives and friends to let them know their situation.

-- Fonix Telecom has teamed up with Cobb EMC and Lockheed Georgia Employees' Federal Credit Union (LGEFCU) to donate 500 hours of calling card services. Through its sister company LecStar Telecom, Fonix Telecom donated 1,000 pre-paid calling cards to the LGEFCU Disaster Relief efforts to help fellow credit unions, their employees and their families throughout storm-damaged areas of Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana.

-- Fonix Telecom has offered to support other VoIP providers in the affected areas where generators have run out of gas.

"Many of us here at Fonix Telecom have friends or relatives in affected areas," said Dale Smith, sr. vice president and general manager, Fonix Telecom. "We are trying to do everything we can to help those victims in need. Providing calling cards and a pre-paid telephone service is just one of the many ways we can give aid."

Smith added, "Fonix Atlanta-based employees have been reaching out to local relief shelters with relief boxes containing water, food, clothing and other much-needed items. Additionally, a number of employees have donated blood. Our efforts in the coming weeks will continue, and we hope that those affected by this tragedy will be able to use the calling cards to keep in contact with their loved ones during this trying time."
