TV Guide Celebrates the 57th Annual Emmys With Cross-Platform Content

Posted on: Thursday, 15 September 2005, 12:00 CDT

Gemstar-TV Guide (Nasdaq: GMST) announced today that its various divisions will team up to celebrate the 57th Annual Primetime Emmys with integrated cross-platform content. TV Guide magazine, Inside TV magazine, TV Guide Channel, and TVGuide.com will each pay homage to the big night with unique coverage that further positions Gemstar-TV Guide as the leader in television information and guidance for consumers.

"TV Guide is thrilled to support the Television Academy in celebrating television's biggest night," said Rich Battista, CEO of Gemstar-TV Guide. "With our 2005 Emmy coverage, TV Guide has created the most extensive cross-platform programming and marketing initiative ever at the company. As the definitive consumer brand for everything about television, TV Guide is engaging all of our businesses to create a powerful experience for television viewers."

TV Guide Channel will feature comprehensive 2005 Emmy coverage hosted by Joan Rivers and Melissa Rivers, with the Queens of the Red Carpet celebrating the Emmy Awards in three original red carpet-themed specials:

-- Guide to the Emmy Awards (premieres Sunday, September 11, 8-9 PM (ET/PT));

-- Joan and Melissa LIVE at the Emmy Awards (premieres Sunday, September 18, 6-8 PM (ET); delayed PT);

-- Emmy Awards Fashion Wrap (premieres Monday, September 19, 8-9 PM (ET/PT))

TV Guide magazine and Inside TV magazine are also teaming up to host the third-annual Emmy after party, celebrating television's biggest night of the year. Taking place at historic tinsel-town hotspot, The Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel, the evening will be reminiscent of yesteryear, with the hotel transformed into a Copacabana-style setting, where the hippest in Hollywood will converge to toast 2005's Emmy nominees and award winners in lush style.

In the September 18 issue (on newsstands September 15), TV Guide magazine will devote four pages to the biggest night in television in the front-of-book news section. Three of the pages will feature TV Guide critic Matt Roush's picks for who should win and who will win on the big night. TV Guide magazine's Emmy package will also consist of a one-page interview with this year's Emmy host, Ellen DeGeneres.

Sister publication, Inside TV's Emmy Preview issue (on newsstands September 15), will also feature an interview with Ms. DeGeneres, in addition to an analysis of who is nominated and why, behind the scenes coverage from last year's show, and a red carpet fashion preview from TV Guide Channel hosts Joan and Melissa Rivers. Inside TV magazine joined forces with Entertainment Tonight to create an Emmy Fashion Hall of Fame, which will run both in the magazine and on the Emmy broadcast of ET. In its post-Emmy issue (on newsstands September 22), Inside TV magazine will dish on all the gossip from the TV Guide and Inside TV Emmy party and will present a review of all the red carpet fashion dos and don'ts.

For further in-depth coverage of this year's Emmys, TV fans can log on to TVGuide.com, where they will find a list of all the nominees, predictions from television authority Matt Roush and Inside TV magazine executive editor, Debra Birnbaum, a poll asking readers to weigh in on who should win, and Joan and Melissa's fashion gallery of dos and don'ts. The site will also feature an exclusive video featuring Joan and Melissa with the quintessential fashion preview.
