Union Pacific Announces Senior Management Appointments in Operations

OMAHA, Neb., Sept. 16 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Union Pacific Railroad today announced changes in management that are effective immediately.

Charles Malone has been appointed vice president-terminal planning and operations. In his new Omaha-based position, Malone is responsible for terminal productivity and asset utilization, including safety, yard capacity planning and implementation of terminal requirements to support the operating Unified Plan.

Malone started his railroad career in 1969 with the Missouri Pacific Railroad as a switchman in Dolton, Ill. He has held several positions in the Operating Department, including yardmaster, trainmaster, superintendent, assistant vice president-terminal operations and regional vice president-south, a position he held prior to his promotion.

Replacing Malone is Joe Santamaria, who has been appointed regional vice president-south with headquarters in Spring, Texas. He is responsible for the day-to-day safe operation of trains over the 5,500-mile Southern Region in Oklahoma, Texas and Louisiana.

Santamaria joined Union Pacific in 1990 and has held a number of positions including director of locomotive shops-North Little Rock, general director of locomotive maintenance, chief mechanical officer and most recently regional vice president-central.

Randy Blackburn has been appointed regional vice president-central, replacing Santamaria. He is responsible for the day-to-day safe operation of trains over the 6,600-mile central region in Iowa, Nebraska, Missouri, Illinois, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas, Louisiana, New Mexico and Kansas. The Central Region headquarters is in Kansas City, Mo.

Blackburn began his railroad career in 1971 with the Missouri Pacific Railroad. He has held various positions in the Operating and Marketing Departments, including trainmaster, sales representative, superintendent-crew management, director operations control, superintendent transportation services, assistant vice president marketing-Mexico and most recently vice president-premium operations.
