Sun Country Airlines and Flight Attendants' Union Reach Accord

Posted on: Friday, 16 September 2005, 21:00 CDT

Representatives of Sun Country Airlines and its Flight Attendants' Union, Teamsters Local 120, announced today that they have reached an agreement and ratified a new five year contract for the airline's 216 flight attendants.

Sun Country Management and the Flight Attendants Union developed an economic model that supports the low cost carrier's long term plan and will provide future incentive compensation as the airline continues to grow and increase its profitability.

"I am extremely proud of the flight attendants and their union representatives for taking the time to understand our current business model," said Shaun Nugent, CEO of Sun Country. "This is a challenging time in the airline industry as most airlines have historically dismissed the fundamental business relationship between cost and revenue. The FA union understands that at the present time holding costs is a priority. However, they believe in the future success of Sun Country and accepted a compensation package based on our long term growth."

Joe Battaglia, representative for the Flight Attendants Union, said "The union and company were committed to reaching an agreement that allowed for the company to remain competitive, while providing Sun Country flight attendants represented by Teamsters Local 120 with continued economic progress, improved work rules and controlled health care costs for the next five years."

The contract between Sun Country and the FA Union will go into effect immediately.

"The value of our flight attendants to this company is immeasurable. We have the best in the business and want to compensate accordingly," said Nugent.

Sun Country Airlines is a low cost, low fare carrier based in St. Paul, MN. Sun Country, a privately held company, is following a conservative growth plan which will increase the frequency to its popular destinations such as Phoenix, Dallas, Los Angeles, Orlando, Ft. Myers, Denver and Las Vegas. For a complete list of destinations and more information, please visit Sun Country's website at suncountry.com.
