Text of report by Iranian radio on 17 September
Although President Ahmadinezhad has held talks on expansion of ties and Iran's nuclear programme with dozens of prominent world politicians on the sideline of the UN General Assembly, the western mass media, however, has focused on his meeting with the Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan - turning it into a media circus.
Following the meeting between the Iranian president and the Turkish prime minister, some news agencies reported that Ahmadinezhad had expressed Iran's readiness to transfer nuclear technology to the Islamic world
. Although Mr Erdogan denied this report, the mass media continues to give extensive coverage to this meeting. However, the fact that Iran and the Islamic countries can cooperate in the field of peaceful nuclear technology is neither strange nor against any regulation. The NPT [Non-Proliferation Treaty] compels those countries which posses nuclear technology to help those which don't have it. The 57 Islamic countries are not excluded from this general agreement. But, experts believe that by highlighting this meeting, western mass media and politicians are pursuing particular objectives. Their propaganda efforts are aimed at gaining international support against Iran's peaceful nuclear programme, and poison the pleasant climate that has been created following President Ahmadinezhad's visit to the General Assembly. Meanwhile, the confession by America regarding its inability to refer Iran's nuclear case to the Security Council and the opposition of Russia, China, India and NAM [Non-Aligned Members] countries to Washington's request has put American politicians and media on the defence - prompting that country to launch a new campaign aimed at poisoning the international climate against Iran. The Turkish prime minister's denial and the fact that those comments were in line with the NPT charter nipped their media circus in the bud.Source: BBC Monitoring Middle East
