NBC Show May Grant Wishes to Small South Carolina Towns

Sep. 17--Attention South Carolina: NBC's dream-makers want to know your deepest desires.
"Three Wishes," hosted by singer Amy Grant, is looking for inspirational stories from small S.C. towns to feature on the new show, which debuts Friday. Townwide and individual wishes will be granted in 10 different U.S. communities during the show's season.
"We really want to highlight small communities across America," said Tracy Green, the show's senior casting producer in Burbank, Calif. "We are really looking into towns with that cute little Main Street that are really deserving."
She said the show began considering South Carolina because one of its producers, Jean Arthur, is from Charleston.
"I visited a lot of the small towns," said Arthur, adding most of the state has a small-town feel and sense of community.
Whether producers pick a South Carolina town will depend on the wishes residents submit to the show.
"It's a good possibility," Arthur said. "South Carolina is definitely a unique state.
Camden and Cheraw are two possibilities that have surfaced, Green said, though they are open to ideas from the entire state.
Wishes can cover a number of things, Green said: reuniting long-lost family members, helping an inventor put a good idea into action, saving a struggling factory, fulfilling a lifelong wish, among others.
"It really is a pretty broad range," she said.
Green said the sooner South Carolinians start sending ideas, the better. Producers want to film here in October.
Friday's show will be set in Sonora, Calif., where a 10-year-old girl disfigured in a car accident will get medical and financial assistance; a local high school will get a new football field; and a sheriff's deputy will finally get to officially adopt his stepson.
Laurie Parks, director of the Kershaw County Chamber of Commerce, said Friday she has at least two ideas for townwide wishes: helping fund homeless cottages for women and children, and expanding the local animal shelter.
