Elluminate Delivers Virtual Classroom to Students Worldwide for Sun Microsystems

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., Sept. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Elluminate, Inc., a leading provider of live eLearning and Web collaboration solutions for the real-time organization, announced today that Sun Microsystems, Inc., the creator and leading advocate of Java(TM) technology, has implemented Elluminate Live! Enterprise Edition(TM). Sun uses Elluminate Live! as its underlying collaboration platform for Live Virtual Class (LVC) training to deliver real-time, instructor-led training over the Internet. Through Live Virtual Class, Sun is able to provide cost-effective technology training directly to the desktop, eliminating the need for expensive travel and enabling employees to remain on the job.
As part of its exhaustive selection process, Sun looked at all major Web collaboration vendors. In the end, only one product had everything the company was looking for. "Initially, it came down to three vendors," said James Wagner Sun's LVC program manager. "However, for application sharing and robust voice over the Internet, only Elluminate Live! met the requirements. In addition, the tool worked well, even over bandwidth connectivity as low as 28.8K, and it provided great support for the primary file formats we use in our training, StarOffice(TM) and PDF formats."
One unexpected side benefit of the Elluminate Live! eLearning and Web conference technology has been its use for internal collaboration and meetings. "I use Elluminate Live! for my core product team meetings, which have attendees from throughout the U.S., as well as from Australia and Germany, using the tool to share files, collaborate on a spreadsheet, or show a presentation," said Wagner. "In addition, some of our executives wanted to defray the cost of travel and began experimenting with Elluminate Live! for meetings. It has been so successful that now the internal demand for meetings has exceeded the anticipated use. We have to put our revenue-generating training courses first, so we are looking at several expansion scenarios for the future."
"We are extremely excited to partner with Sun Microsystems to help take its traditional classroom training into an Internet-based, virtual classroom environment," said Maurice Heiblum, Elluminate's VP of Sales & Marketing. "Elluminate Live! is a Java technology application from top to bottom, so it was built to provide the cross-platform support Sun needs for its distance education program."
