At Oracle OpenWorld, Quest Software Inc. (Nasdaq:QSFT), a leading provider of application, database and infrastructure management solutions, today announced version 5.5 of Quest Central(R) for Oracle, an integrated database management solution designed to simplify complex day-to-day DBA tasks. Quest enables DBAs to easily detect, diagnose and resolve, and now predict even the most difficult Oracle performance issues before critical applications are impacted.
"Our ability to keep our helicopter fleet safe and operational relies on the business-critical applications that run on an Oracle database. We cannot afford any Oracle performance bottlenecks," said James Quinn, CIO at Petroleum Helicopters Incorporated. "Quest Central for Oracle has been a great solution for us to diagnose poorly performing SQL code and resolve Oracle performance issues. We are very excited about the release of version 5.5 of Quest Central for Oracle. Its improved performance analysis and SQL Tuning capabilities will allow us to be even more proactive in our approach to Oracle performance, and will enable us to more safely manage and operate our fleet."
The new version of Quest Central for Oracle features enhanced performance management capabilities that empower DBAs to proactively prevent issues before they occur. It also includes extensive environment support for Oracle 10g, Oracle RAC and Citrix Terminal Server. New enhancements in version 5.5 include:
-- A non-intrusive database object and source code scanner that identifies possible performance problems offline or online from the System Global Area, enabling users to be proactive in troubleshooting bottlenecks before they arise;
-- A predictive "what if" function that analyzes the impact of potential database changes before they are implemented ensuring that expected performance gains are realized;
-- Advanced SQL optimization technology that automates SQL rewrites, increasing user productivity by eliminating the lengthy, trial-and-error process of advice-driven tools;
-- Production workload simulation capabilities that evaluate the scalability of Oracle RAC systems, empowering users to proactively identify the correct number of RAC nodes needed to support optimal database configuration;
-- Enhanced RAC support that includes a performance analysis RAC view, RAC nodes comparison reports and a display of cluster wait events, enabling users to get detailed information and understanding of historical RAC metrics.
"Native tools or stand-alone third-party tools are not properly equipped to analyze the high volume of performance data that is needed to proactively address complex performance issues. This results in a reactive approach that can often cost companies weeks in lost productivity," said Juli Ackerman, vice president, database management solutions, Quest Software. "Quest Central for Oracle gives DBAs the right information they need, when they need it, so that they can easily pinpoint and understand the root-cause of a problem, or even identify potential issues before they impact database performance."
Quest Central for Oracle also offers new highly configurable deployment, installation and use options. This includes a new easy-to-use interface that allows users to explore and launch any Quest Software database product or tutorial, across multiple database platforms, from a single interface. The product's enhanced space management capabilities offer true zero downtime and significant performance improvements during live reorgs. Additionally, advanced database administration is now available through seamless integration between Quest Central for Oracle and Toad(R) for Oracle, Quest Software's market-leading Oracle database development and administration tool.
Quest Central for Oracle supports Oracle versions 8.0.6 through 10g. It also supports a range of operating platforms including Linux, UNIX, Windows 2000 and Windows Server 2003.
