BayPackets Announces Multimedia Initiative at Fall VON; Company Also Announces Videomail - IMS-Compliant Solution Designed to Help Service Providers Increase Customer Loyalty And Billable Airtime

Posted on: Tuesday, 20 September 2005, 09:00 CDT

BayPackets, Inc., a leader in providing IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) compliant multi-network voice and data solutions for wireless, wireline and cable operators, today announced a multimedia initiative designed to help service providers quickly and affordably bring multimedia services to market. BayPackets simultaneously announced Videomail, an enhancement to the company's Agility Unified Communications Application that enables subscribers to record, send, and retrieve email, fax and voicemail messages with a video component. Videomail is built on BayPackets' Agility SIP Application Server and Brooktrout Technology's SnowShore IP Media Server. It is the first in a series of multimedia solutions BayPackets and its partners will announce in the coming months to help carriers drive revenue through differentiated services.

"Service providers are struggling with margin and growth issues due to the commoditization of voice services," said Ken Epps, CEO of BayPackets. "They need the ability to rapidly and affordably deliver dynamic, high-bandwidth content and application-based services. BayPackets' IMS-compliant service layer solution does just that - providing carriers with flexibility, service velocity and a lower cost, through the IMS framework."

BayPackets' Agility Unified Communications solution is a network-based product that seamlessly integrates multiple messaging systems such as e-mail, fax, voicemail, and now Videomail into a single unified platform. It also supports prepaid and postpaid service billing. The product offers multiple message notification options including e-mail, SMS, and IM, as well as access/retrieval of messages via multiple devices such as IP and POTS telephones, cell phones and web browsers. The open, standards-based solution is in compliance with the 3GPP/IMS framework, enabling 3G video phone subscribers to make real-time video calls to other subscribers, and non-subscribers to retrieve video messages over the Internet.

"Brooktrout's SnowShore IP Media Server is designed to support the development of advanced voice and video messaging applications such as BayPackets' Videomail application," said Peter Vescuso, vice president of market development for Brooktrout Technology. "Carriers are keenly interested in deploying services on standards-based architectures like IMS. The combination of Brooktrout's open, scalable, software-based IP Media Server with BayPackets' Agility Unified Communications solution provides customers with an IMS-ready offering for next generation applications."

BayPackets' Agility SIP Application Server conforms to the 3GPP IMS standard and includes a complete Element Management System and Service Management System. Backed by Brooktrout's powerful media processing capabilities, Baypackets' Agility SAS can deliver fully-featured video messaging from within a proven, extensible platform. This platform also enables carriers to deliver a variety of enhanced communications services including unified messaging, find-me follow-me services, basic voice messaging, prepaid wireless, calling card and more.

Videomail will be available in the fourth quarter of 2005.
