Ahead Communications Systems Delivers IP Video Network Aware Scheduling System to New York State Schools

Posted on: Tuesday, 20 September 2005, 12:00 CDT

Ahead Communications Systems announced today that it has successfully installed its ProSphere "network aware" Scheduling System to control and monitor a large-scale IP distance-learning network in western New York State. ProSphere controls the scheduling of distance learning sessions for more than 60 participating BOCES (Boards of Cooperative Educational Services) schools. The system enables a virtual presence classroom experience between teachers and students in geographically separate locations in the region.

Used to schedule and monitor classroom distance learning sessions, the ProSphere Scheduler offers distributed BOCES administrators a reliable and secure means to control conferences between schools using the Tut Systems Content Processor Astria(R) premises equipment connected to one another across a Gigabit Ethernet network.

"The ProSphere Scheduler is powerful and easy to use," commented Mark Banks, Manager of Distance Education Media Services at Erie 1 BOCES. "This software is extremely efficient, and both non-technical and technical users have complete confidence in scheduling large numbers of classroom sessions," Banks added.

The ProSphere Scheduler incorporates many time saving features for operators of distance learning networks. It automatically discovers network elements, eliminating costly delays in installing, modifying, and configuring the video network. ProSphere also reduces the time to resolve conflicts in master schedules for large networks to a matter of seconds or milliseconds. The software provides immediate visual feedback of alarms before, during and after a conference session, giving operators instant visual feedback on the cause of a problem. Administrators save time when a problem occurs and can take remedial action quickly. By means of a topology tree and map views, administrators have full visibility to the network, allowing a technician to drill down to fault conditions and take appropriate action to avoid costly interruptions. ProSphere also generates reports on demand with multiple, configurable options and eliminates many time consuming and labor intensive administrative tasks.

The ProSphere Scheduler is a platform independent, client server system supporting the control of a variety of industry leading video devices. An application of the ProSphere network management system used in networks worldwide, ProSphere Scheduler is yet another example of the Ahead Communications goal of supporting integrated network solutions for its customers.
