PASADENA, Calif., Sept. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Former Bush Administration Chief of Cyber Security, Amit Yoran, has joined the Board of Directors of Guidance Software, the leading incident response and computer investigations company. In this capacity, Mr. Yoran will provide strategic counsel and apply his extensive experience in addressing the nation's most daunting cyber-security challenges.
President George W. Bush appointed Yoran as Director of the Department of Homeland Security's National Cyber Security Division in 2003, where he served as the Administration's top cyber security official. Mr. Yoran's number one directive was to coordinate responses among federal departments, law enforcement and intelligence agencies responsible for securing critical computer networks that keep America running. Mr. Yoran also served as a conduit between the nation's leading IT companies and government agencies to develop leading technologies that improve detection and response to digital threats.
"With his years of front-line experience in cyber security and incidence response, Amit Yoran's insights will expand our company's unparalleled expertise in computer forensics and network investigations," said John Colbert, CEO of Guidance Software. "As a pioneer in this field, his contributions will play a key role as our company continues to grow."
As the industry leader in enterprise investigations and computer forensics, Guidance Software continues to see increased demand for its suite of products and services in the corporate and government sectors. The company intends to draw upon Mr. Yoran's expertise on ways to expand its professional service offerings and sales of the network investigations software, EnCase(R) Enterprise.
"My experience as the national Cyber Security Director strengthened my conviction that enterprises need to better equip themselves with the proper tools to effectively and accurately respond to computer security breaches anywhere in a global company or federal agency network," said Amit Yoran. "Guidance Software leads the market in providing this critical capability with their EnCase Enterprise software. I am excited to join the Guidance Software team and help in their efforts -- empowering enterprises to combat the ever increasing wave of internal and external cyber security threats and help them make better informed decisions."
Prior to joining the Department of Homeland Security, Mr. Yoran was the Vice President of Managed Security Services at the Symantec Corporation. He was the founder and CEO of Riptech, a market-leading IT security company acquired by Symantec in 2002. Mr. Yoran previously served as an officer in the United States Air Force as the Director of Vulnerability Programs for the Department of Defense's Computer Emergency Response Team and in support of the Assistant Secretary of Defense's Office. Mr. Yoran received a Master of Science degree from the George Washington University and Bachelor of Science from the United States Military Academy at West Point.
