Toshiba to Begin Sample Shipment of Cell Chip Sets in April

Tokyo, Sept. 20 (Jiji Press)--Toshiba Corp. said Tuesday it will begin sample shipments of chip sets using the Cell next-generation microprocessor in April 2006.
The Cell microprocessor has been codeveloped by Toshiba, International Business Machines Corp. and the Sony Corp. group.
The processor is expected to be used in digital consumer electronics and other products.
Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. plans to use it in the PlayStation 3 home video game console, to be launched next spring.END
