Hitachi Deskstar 7K500 Selected As Exclusive Hard Drive in Maximum PC ''Dream Machine''

Posted on: Wednesday, 21 September 2005, 03:00 CDT

Hitachi Global Storage Technologies (Hitachi GST) today announced that its 500GB Deskstar 7K500, the industry's first half-terabyte hard drive, will be featured in the 10th annual Maximum PC "Dream Machine" -- a.k.a. DMX. The custom-built, ultimate entertainment computer uses a total of five Deskstar 7K500 drives in a RAID 3 array, providing nearly 2 terabytes of high performance storage. DMX is featured in the September 2005 issue of Maximum PC and will be exhibited in several major US cities through the remainder of 2005, allowing consumers to have a hands-on gaming experience with this year's Dream Machine.

"Each year, the Maximum PC 'Dream Machine' is built using the most innovative and high performance products the industry has to offer, so we are pleased that the Deskstar 7K500 has been chosen as the exclusive hard drive," said Becky Smith, vice president of marketing, Hitachi Global Storage Technologies. "The Deskstar 7K500, which has won numerous awards for its industry-leading capacity and other features, will make a significant contribution to the monstrous overall performance of the DMX."

"When we created our first 'Dream Machine' ten years ago, it housed just a single 2GB hard drive," said Josh Norem, associate editor, Maximum PC. "The progression of hard drive technology since our first Dream Machine is amazing. The performance we have been able to achieve using the five Hitachi Deskstar 7K500 drives, not to mention the sheer capacity, shows just how far the technology has come."

The Maximum PC "Dream Machine Tour" will stop at the following locations:

-- November 3-7, 2005 -- Lowe's Cineplex, New York, NY

-- November 24-December 24, 2005 -- Sony Metreon, San Francisco, CA

-- January 11-February 19, 2006 -- Mobile Tour to Seattle, Los Angeles, Tucson, Dallas, Chicago and Boston
