Canon to Start OEL Panel, Projection Display Operations
Sep. 21–TOKYO — Canon Inc. plans to start producing organic electroluminescent display panels and projection-type displays in the next two to three years, the Nihon Keizai Shimbun reported Wednesday.
The new products will be part of the company’s five-year business plan from 2006, the report said.
OEL display panels offer sharper image reproduction and wider viewing angles than LCD panels, making them suitable for digital cameras, the report said.
The report said Canon also plans to enter the market for home-use displays with the release of surface conduction electron emitter display flat-panel TVs developed with Toshiba Corp.
