ENGLEWOOD, Colo., Sept. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- ICG Communications announced today that it has been selected to provide fiber optic transmission services for a homeland security initiative with the Colorado North Central All-Hazard's Emergency Management Region (NCR). The services will improve communications reliability and coordination among authorities in the region, and are scheduled to go live in November 2005.
"ICG is dedicated to providing superior service reliability. We are very well aware of and gratified by the fact that the communications services we provide help our government agencies ensure the safety of our nation," said ICG Communications' Senior Vice President of Sales and Business Development Dennis Kyle.
The contract is an exclusive 10-year lease agreement that also includes a "first response" initiative that will allow better communications with and among the first responder community -- local police, firefighters and emergency medical professionals -- in the event of an emergency or terrorist event.
Scott Kellar, homeland security coordinator for the NCR, stated that, "We are very pleased to work with ICG on this important initiative to establish and enhance the critical communication links used by first responders throughout our region. This effort is part of our regional communications strategy and will improve over 20 agency communication systems."
