Plane with wheel problems touches down safely
LOS ANGELES, Sept. 21 (Xinhua) — A US airliner carrying 146 passengers and crew touched down safely Wednesday afternoon at the Los Angeles International Airport after cirling nearly three hours due to problems in its front wheels.
The Jetblue flight 292 found front wheels stuck sideways and unable to react shortly after takeoff and it made a dramatic emergency landing relying on back wheels.
The plane of the JetBlue Airways flew three hours over the airport as the pilots burned off fuel and officials tried to determine how to bring the plane in safely.
CNN footage showed that flames shot along the tarmac as the plane touched down and it finally halted safely on the runway.
Then passengers came off the Airbus 320 under the help of ground rescuers and more details are not available immediately.
The plane of the JetBlue Airways left Burbank’s Bob Hope Airport at 3:17 p.m. Wednesday and headed for New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport.
The plane first circled the Long Beach Airport, about 50 km south of Burbank, for an emergency landing and then it turned to the Los Angeles airport, which has longer runways and more emergency equipment.
