SyntheSys Research and JDSU Collaborate on Optical 4X & 8X Fibre Channel and 10G Ethernet Compliance Testing
Posted on: Monday, 26 September 2005, 03:00 CDT
For designers creating and building the next generation optical storage, enterprise and telecommunications components and network equipment, a new corporate collaboration between SyntheSys Research and JDSU provides the ideal solution for testing to the latest, more rigorous serial data standards, including 4X and 8X Fibre Channel and 10G Ethernet.
JDSU's contribution includes its Reference Generators, which have been tested for seamless interoperability with the SyntheSys BERTScope(TM) S. This unique combination of instruments creates the optimum bench top or system test set for optical receiver testing up to 10.71 Gbps. The joint collaboration enables design engineers to easily measure jitter while testing for compliance, providing greater insight into device characterization at BER of 10(-12).
"With 4X and 8X Fibre Channel and 10G Ethernet 850nm and 1310nm multi-mode development currently underway, our customers are seeking greater measurement capability in a ready-to-test solution," said Enzo di Luigi, vice president and general manager for JDSU CommTest's fiber optics business unit. "The BERTScope(TM) offers integrated, calibrated jitter stress generation with powerful analysis tools, like jitter peak and compliance contour with fast mask test, giving our manufacturing and carrier customers 'the edge' as they ramp their production."
BERTScope 12500A is a new instrument class, combining the essential eye diagram of a sampling oscilloscope with the bit error detection capability of a BERT. It is the only instrument to bridge the information gap by directly correlating bit errors to the eye diagram. The new BERTScope(TM) S features stressed eye testing, a critical jitter tolerance measurement capability for testing today's storage, enterprise and telecommunications standards from 1G Ethernet up to 10G Ethernet and 10G SONET/SDH data rates.
"JDSU is a technology leader in the test and measurement market, with key optical test solution building blocks for Fibre Channel and 10G Ethernet," said Charlie Schaffer, VP of Marketing at SyntheSys Research.
