Opnext Expands Laser Diode Portfolio; New Products Enable Information and Industrial Applications; Offer Lower Drive Current
Posted on: Monday, 26 September 2005, 09:00 CDT
Opnext, Inc., a global leader in high-performance optical components, today announced the development of three new laser diodes designed for information and industrial applications. The new product line-up offers a wide range of variations, including low driving current and low aspect ratio models for collimator applications, suitable for levelers, bar code scanners, measuring instruments, medical equipment and similar systems that require high performance capabilities. A low driving current enables a longer operating time by battery and low astigmatism makes the laser diodes optics less complex.
"Opnext products are constantly being developed to meet the latest market needs, such as low power consumption with high output," said Masaharu Umezawa, senior vice president, Device Business Unit, Opnext. "We are happy to be able to offer our customers these high quality laser diodes to meet all of their needs."
"We are looking forward to evaluating the newly developed products," said Tony Pope, managing director of Photonic Products Ltd, European distributor for Opnext. "If the quality of the new laser diodes is as consistently good as we have come to expect from Opnext, this will be a very exciting development for us."
The new laser diodes offer low drive current improvements of 30 percent less than existing products. Specs include: -- HL6356MG and HL6357MG laser diodes -- Low drive current of 635nm, 3mW -- In a 5.6mm diameter can package -- Working samples will be available October and mass production in 4Q/05 -- Product is used for applications such as leveler and laser marker -- HL6354MG and HL6355MG laser diodes -- Low drive current of 635nm, with 5mW -- In a 5.6mm diameter can package -- Working samples will be available October and mass production in 4Q/05 -- Product is used for applications such as leveler, laser marker, barcode scanner and distance meter -- HL6362MG and HL6363MG laser diodes -- Low drive current of 639nm, with 40mW -- In a 5.6mm diameter can package -- Working samples will be available in October and mass production in Q1/06 -- Product is used for applications such as medical equipment, inspection equipment and display use
