NSI Software Partners With Microsoft to Support Launch of System Center Data Protection Manager 2006; NSI Software's Double-Take Seamlessly Enhances and Protects DPM

Posted on: Tuesday, 27 September 2005, 06:00 CDT

NSI Software, Inc. (NSI(R)), developer of Double-Take(R), the most relied upon solution for continuous data protection and application availability, today announced it is working with Microsoft(R) to launch Microsoft System Center Data Protection Manager (DPM) 2006. The availability of System Center Data Protection Manager 2006 further validates the need for disk-based data protection solutions, a market which NSI Software has led for over ten years.

"Microsoft's creation and launch of DPM validates what NSI has been saying for years, which is that last night's data is not good enough. The market is clearly shifting away from tapes, to disk-based back up," said Dean Goodermote, CEO of NSI Software. "We look forward to working with Microsoft to inform a larger audience about adding this capability to the data protection spectrum, which includes tape backup archiving, Microsoft VSS snapshots, and Double-Take replication. In addition, there is an even stronger solution that is based on the ability of Double-Take to enhance and even protect DPM with value-added features."

DPM and Double-Take work well together and complement each other for a broad range of scenarios. For example, NSI and Microsoft have collaborated on a joint solution to enable Double-Take to protect the DPM server. This includes using Double-Take for disaster recovery of the DPM data, which eases the recovery time and process in the event of a catastrophe.

"Today's world is about recovery and we're pleased to work with NSI to bring new DPM-based solutions to market today," said Ben Matheson, group product manager, Windows and Enterprise Management Division at Microsoft Corp. "NSI Double-Take builds on the value of DPM to help customers protect Microsoft SQL and Exchange Server data while dramatically lowering the cost of backup and recovery."

NSI is a Microsoft Certified Gold Partner and recently achieved the Advanced Infrastructure Solutions Competency. Through over ten years of developing disk-based replication software, NSI has built sophisticated features into Double-Take that provide users with advanced data protection solutions already, and add additional value to DPM solutions.

Double-Take adds value on its own or alongside DPM with its ability to:

-- Run on domain controllers - a particularly notable feature for those environments where a remote location has only one server offering directory and file services

-- Replicate application data - a necessity to protect all applications like Exchange or SQL

-- Replicate within seconds - providing the ability to back up data almost immediately after it is changed (even in open files), making sure it is protected up to the second before a disaster may strike

-- Replicate encrypted files - ensuring that all data can be protected no matter what the structure, including files encrypted by the Windows Server OS or through other methods

-- Provide high availability failover - instead of simply providing data protection and recovery, Double-Take can failover at a moment's notice to minimize downtime

-- Ensure data integrity - by maintaining "write order preservation" between servers
