Microsoft, Intel Go With HD-DVD

Toshiba Corp.’s next-generation high-definition DVD technology has gained the endorsement of the world’s top software and chip makers.
Microsoft Corp. and Intel Corp. both sided with Toshiba’s HD-DVD format in a setback for Sony Corp., developer of the rival standard Blue-ray, The New York Times reported Tuesday.
Intel and Microsoft said they will develop software and chips that will allow personal computers to play the next-generation DVD’s from Toshiba.
Sony is supported by Matsushita Electric and Samsung.
