Language Analysis Systems and VisionTEK to Offer Name Recognition Technology to First Responders

Posted on: Tuesday, 27 September 2005, 09:00 CDT

VisionTEK, Inc., a software solutions provider for the public safety community, has entered into a partnership with Language Analysis Systems, Inc. (LAS) to offer advanced name recognition technology to VisionTEK's public safety customers.

LAS's innovative software technology recognizes character and phonetic variations in names, as well as parsing errors, cultural transliterations, simple typos and other issues that may make it otherwise difficult to obtain accurate results when a first responder runs a name search. The program also can show legitimate variations of the searched name, including alternate spellings.

The expanded capability offered by the name recognition software goes beyond the standard Soundex technology that is commonly used today by the public safety community. By integrating the software at the server/message switch level, VisionTEK is able to offer this functionality to all users easily and simultaneously, instead of having to offer it on a system-by-system basis.

"VisionTEK is leading the way in data integration, and we are pleased to partner with such a proactive company to reach the public safety community," said Leonard Schaefer, president and chief technical officer of LAS. "Our software increases and improves name search results, meaning more offenders will be recognized, and the advanced culturally sensitive matching will better able first responders to fulfill their expanded mission related to homeland security." In fact, federal authorities used this technology to track down 9/11 terrorists, and it also is being used by U.S. intelligence and border protection agencies.

Frank Traylor, president of VisionTEK, added: "We are excited to be able to offer this type of technology as part of our message switch solution. Integrating the high-caliber software developed by LAS will be a valuable functionality for our customers, and ultimately means safer streets and communities for everyone."
