RouteMatch Software Hosts Largest Ever National Transportation Technology User Conference In Atlanta

Posted on: Wednesday, 28 September 2005, 09:00 CDT

110 attendees from 60 private and public transportation organizations representing 28 states in attendance

U.S. DOT ITS Program Manager, Yehuda Gross, discusses United We Ride and Mobility Services for All Americans initiatives and updates

RouteMatch Software, Inc. today announced the completion of its national transportation technology user conference in Atlanta, GA. More than 60 public and private transportation providers across 28 states attended RouteMatch's conference from September 18-21 to discuss and learn about intelligent transportation systems, new routing and scheduling software enhancements, and leading edge technologies that will further improve the efficiencies of transportation systems across the country.

Public and private transportation providers continue to adopt and expand the use of advanced transportation automation technologies, and federal initiatives such as the Transportation Equity Act for the 21st Century (TEA 21) encourage providers to adopt technologies for improving service on a statewide and regional basis. Efficiencies related to reducing fuel consumption are also a priority as providers struggle with rising gas prices.

Yehuda Gross, ITS Transit Program Manager for the U.S. Department of Transportation, Federal Highway Administration, shared important updates on federal and department of transportation developments and initiatives including United We Ride and Mobility Services for All Americans.

Through a series of educational workshops, attendees learned about additional technologies that will make transportation service and coordination more sophisticated than ever imagined, such as automated vehicle locators (AVLs), mobile data computers (MDCs), and interactive voice recognition (IVRs).

The conference featured case studies that highlighted best practices in the use of transportation technology, including private providers S.C.M. Elderbus, Inc. (MA); Provide A Ride (OH); Peoples Transportation (OH); and public transportation providers such as Wake County Human Services (NC); Metro Transit (AL); and Federated Transportation Services (KY).

"This user conference was very helpful, giving me the opportunity to meet people from other systems, learn some best practices and gain a better understanding of the software," said William Jenkins Jr., paratransit manager for the Columbus METRA Transit System in Georgia.
