Google Inc. has confirmed it will collaborate with NASA's Ames Research Center on such projects as moon launches and online searches.
Google, with headquarters in Mountain View, Calif., said it plans to build up to 1 million square feet of office space at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration's facility located at Moffett Field, a former military airfield near Mountain View, the company said in a news release.
The partnership is intended to blend Google's expertise and resources with NASA's army of scientists, said Eric Schmidt, Google's chief executive officer.
Google and NASA share a common desire to bring the universe of information to people around the world, said Schmidt in a statement. Imagine having a wide selection of images from the Apollo space mission at your fingertips whenever you want it.
The partnership was announced late Wednesday during a news conference at the NASA facility.
