SeaMobile Inc., a leading provider of advanced at-sea wireless voice communications and data applications, announced today it has partnered with Ericsson to supply its wireless network infrastructure for delivery of services to segments of the maritime industry, including the fast growing cruise line industry.
This three-year agreement brings together two companies with deep experience in the wireless industry and provides maritime customers with the latest generation wireless services previously unavailable at sea. Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
The Ericsson Core Network enables SeaMobile to support multiple wireless devices, including GSM and GPRS, and offer passengers aboard ships the access to voice and data services they have on land. From the Core Network, SeaMobile connects to the world through more than 200 roaming agreements so that passengers enjoy a seamless experience in making and receiving calls and data. This includes the ability to receive all billing information on the wireless customer's "home" carrier bill.
"The combined expertise of Ericsson and SeaMobile creates an unbeatable team in delivering advanced wireless services at sea," SeaMobile President and CEO William D. Marks said. "Ericsson's position as the largest infrastructure provider for 3G and GSM technology is an excellent fit with SeaMobile. We're immediately providing a better wireless user experience at sea that will continue to evolve as we introduce services not currently available to the maritime industry."
Angel Ruiz, head of Ericsson North America, said, "Consumers are used to taking their mobile phones wherever they go, and they want the option of being in touch at all times. Ericsson will help SeaMobile deliver that freedom to its customers, even at sea."
